Description

This barn, located approximately 5 metres south-west of Stockwood House, dates from the mid 18th century and has early 19th-century alterations. It features rubble walling that is rendered, with some brick infill on the south face. The gabled roof has ashlar copings and slates on the south side, pantiles on the north, and a section of 20th-century single-Roman tiles at the west end. The barn is a two-storey structure set at right angles to the road, with its west end now part of the adjacent Stockwood Cottage, which is not included in this listing.

The exterior has coped gables with an apex finial at the east end. The south face is mostly blank, except for a doorway on the right with a plank door. The north face features a cambered-arched opening on the left with a plank door and two lights above it, a segmental-arched gate opening with a plank gate and a small planked opening above, and a 6-pane fixed light in the centre. There is also a gabled full-dormer with a plank door and a projecting wooden hoist, along with a plank door to the right that has a 3-paned light above. The east return wall has a blocked doorway with a two-centre arch.

Inside, the barn has flagged floors, some internal walls, and a coupled-rafter roof. It forms part of the setting for Stockwood House and is grouped with it.
