Description

This is a house in a row, dating from around 1830. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a concrete tile roof. The main range includes a double-roofed section set back to the right, with a short return that forms an L-shape in line with the rest of the row. Originally, the ground floor had a shopfront with display windows facing the road and the return.

The two-storey facade features twelve-pane sash windows. The road front has one sash window above a multi-pane display window, and the return has one sash window above a later inserted sash window, set into the ashlar walling and replacing a former display area. The return arm also has sash windows at each level. The outer corner is splayed and includes a part-glazed door. A moulded string runs along the road front and return, positioned above the former shopfronts. The building has a main cornice, blocking course, and coped gables. The left double gabled return is plain. The rear elevation contains an early twelve-pane sash window above two sashes and a central door.

Attached to the left, in line with the main wall, is a single-storey screen wall containing a plank door leading to No. 140A, which lies further back within the garden area, and is not included in the listing. The interior has not been inspected.
