Description

A pair of houses dating from the early to mid-19th century, located on North Road in Combe Down/Williamstowe, with alterations made in the 20th century. The houses are built of limestone ashlar with slate roofs. They are two storeys and double-fronted. Number 134 has three windows: twelve-pane sashes at the first floor, weathering at the sill band openings, and two large, early 19th-century eighteen-pane display windows below, topped with a fascia and cornice. A flat slab hood with a moulded edge, supported by brackets, shelters the central door. Number 136 is similar in design, but with only two windows at the first floor, wide-spaced twelve-pane sashes, and four-pane sashes below a central 20th-century door recessed within deep reveals, finished with a bracketed hood. The sill band on number 136 is painted with the words "HIGHBURY VILLS". Each gable has an ashlar stack. The interiors have not been inspected.
