Description

The Shrubbery is a detached house located above Camden Road, built around 1870 with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof, which has scroll timber brackets at the quoins of its wide eaves and stacks on the sides and rear. The house has an L-shaped plan with a mezzanine hip-roofed service wing at the back.

The building stands two storeys tall with a basement and has a four-window range. It features plate glass sash windows with ornamental stops on the chamfered jambs. The entrance front faces southwest at a right angle to the road and includes paired windows to the left. A moulded ground floor band steps slightly forward over a bolection moulded six-panel door and overlight. To the right of the entrance, there is an external stack flanked by a window on each floor.

The left side of the street front has a single-storey canted bay with a restored parapet, and above it is a stone mullioned tripartite window. The right side has similar tripartite windows. The right return features a tripartite window at the rear of the first floor and another to the left of the ground floor, along with a 20th-century window at the rear of the ground floor. The first floor of the rear service wing is accessible by a bridge from the main house. The interior has not been inspected.
