Description

Nos. 6 and 7 Upper Camden Place, with their attached steps and railings, form a pair of houses within an irregular terrace built in 1815. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar, with an unseen roof and stacks to the party wall and the left-hand side.

Each house has three full storeys, including an attic, over a lower ground floor. The front of each house features a full-height segmental bay with an eight/eight-pane tripartite sash window (excluding the lower ground floor). To the right of each bay is a narrow bay with a six-panel door, accessed via a flight of stone steps with wrought iron railings. The houses have a coped parapet and a band, a second-floor zigzag dentil cornice, a plain frieze, and a ground-floor platband that follows the contours of the bays. No. 6 has blind windows to the sides of its second-floor tripartite window and a small two/two-pane sash window to the right. The door at No. 6 has tall glazed panels at the top and moulded roundels in the central panels, under a plain segmental arch and fanlight. A two/two-pane sash window is located on the lower ground floor. No. 7 is similar, but its bay is more semicircular. The parapet at No. 7 has a later railing balustrade. A four/four-pane sash window sits to the right of the second-floor window, and the half-glazed door is arched with a keystone and a fanlight with radial glazing bars. A railed balconette is present on the ground floor of the bay, and obvious toothing is visible on the party wall. The interiors have not been inspected. The date of construction is confirmed by deeds. The terrace was designed to take advantage of the fine south-easterly views, with extensive fenestration, segmental bays, and raised entrances contributing to a picturesque character.
