Description
A symmetrical pair of houses built in 1815, located on the left side of an irregular terrace above Camden Road. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar, with rustication to the first floor. The roofs and chimney stacks are not visible. The houses feature double-depth plans.
The exterior is three storeys high, with entrances at first-floor level. The front is symmetrical, with an entrance flanked by segmental bow windows that extend the full height of the building. A pair of stone steps, with separate wrought iron railings featuring wreathed ends and scroll brackets, leads up to a wide segmental archway over paired six-panel doors, which share a segmental fanlight with radial glazing bars. Above the entrances, a blind window is painted to resemble eight/eight-pane glazing. The windows within the bow windows are tripartite, with a central eight/eight-pane window flanked by four/four-pane side windows. The building has a coped parapet, cornice, a ground floor platband, and chamfered rustication on the ground floor, all following the contours of the segmental bow windows.
The interior has not been inspected. The construction date is derived from deeds. These houses were designed to take advantage of the south-east view through extensive glazing, segmental bows, and unusually raised entrances, and mark the southern end of the development.
