Description
The Garth is a detached villa dating from the mid-19th century, located on the north side of Church Road in Combe Down. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with a slate roof. The building has a compact block shape featuring a double roof with gables and a central valley, along with a large later rear wing that includes a verandah over an open arcade.
The exterior is two storeys high with three plain sash windows. On either side of the central stone canted bay, which has a cornice and parapet, there is a central sash window on the first floor above an enclosed ashlar porch. This porch has a round arched entrance and small windows on the sides, an impost band, cornice, and parapet, along with a four-panel door and transom light. The main range features a coved cornice, blocking course, and parapet, with four ashlar stacks on the coped gable ends. At the rear, to the left, there is a deep gabled wing with a tent verandah supported by six fretted standards, above an ashlar arcade.
The interior has not been inspected. The Garth is part of a group of villas along the north side of Church Road, offering panoramic views over the countryside to the south.
