Description
No. 141 Wateringbury is a detached villa built around 1831. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with a tiled roof and features a compact block design with a double roof and central valley, supported by bracketed eaves. The building has two storeys and a basement, with three windows that include plain sashes with louvred shutters and plain casements in the basement. The central entrance has a panelled door topped by a transom light, which is sheltered by a shaped tent hood with a scalloped edge and is accessed by four stone steps with nosings. The ends of the building have plain pilasters that return as an eaves band, and there are eaves stacks at each end. The left side has a twelve-pane sash window on the first floor, while the right side features a large later-added wing with a large square ridge stack. This villa is part of a series of villas on the north side of Church Road, offering fine panoramic views to the south, and it was one of the earliest houses of status in an area previously occupied by quarry-related workers.
