Description
High Pavement fronting Nos. 1-24 is a structure likely built around 1775. It features a high pavement made of limestone, primarily square cut rubble, and Pennant flags. The pavement reaches its highest point outside No. 17 and is topped with a plain wrought iron railing. There are various openings leading to vaults beneath the pavement, along with several ramps that connect the pavement level to the road. The pavement was likely constructed alongside the houses behind it, although it may have been altered during early 19th century highway improvements when the road's gradient was lowered. This structure is a good example of the type found in Bath, serving both as storage space and providing a secure foot passage.
