Description

No. 31 is a restaurant dating from around 1800, with some later alterations. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the rear is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. The roof features one and a half Roman tiles at the front and has an ashlar stack at the right end.

The building has two storeys and a basement at the rear, with a two-window front. On the first floor, there are two horned sash windows with stone sills on console brackets, and a wrought iron balconette to the left, which is not visible due to the shop front on the right. The ground floor features a broad segmental arch on the left, which forms the entrance to the former Wellington Terrace and Wellington Place. To the right, there is a projecting shop front, likely from the mid-19th century, with 20th-century alterations. This shop front includes a plate glass window on the right, a four-pane door with an overlight, and a six-panel door to the left, flanked by pilasters with incised panels supporting an entablature. The rear elevation has plate glass sashes and casements in flat ashlar surrounds, with sill bands on both the ground and first floors, and a 20th-century window in the basement.

There is also an attached ashlar wall and pier to the left of the raised pennant paved step leading to the front doors.
