Description
A late 18th or early 19th century house, likely around 1800, possibly incorporating earlier fabric, with 20th century additions. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar to the front, with the rear partly in coursed rubble. It has a concrete tile roof. The house is a single-depth design with a two-window front, featuring twelve-pane sash windows with bold square sills, the glazing bars having been reinstated since a 1975 survey. The original right-hand side features a flush six-panel door with a shallow five-pane transom light, set beneath a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. To the left of the door is a blocked former opening, with evidence in the upper ashlar floors suggesting that there were formerly central windows. A coped gable and a small square stack are present on the right side, and a larger stack on the left. The rear elevation features two widely-spaced plain sash windows on the upper floor, set within good ashlar walling. Below, the walling is of rubble construction, with a small central slit light and a very small square light to the right. A glazed conservatory is located to the left, and a stone outshut with a slate roof and eaves stack is positioned over a door and window on the right. The lower walling suggests an earlier structure than the rest of the building. The interior was not inspected. The house was altered in 1991. It is a plainly fronted, later Georgian house, representing an early phase of development in this part of southeast Bath.
