Description

No. 1 Widcombe Hill is a late 18th or early 19th century house situated at the end of a row. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and has a double Roman tile roof. Originally, there were two houses on this site, but the rear section has been demolished. The house is three storeys high, with windows featuring bold square sills, now plastic replacements. At the time of a previous survey, these were glazing bar sashes, arranged one over one or two over one. A six-panel flush door, partly glazed, is located to the left, sheltered by a flat hood with a moulded edge supported on brackets. A low, square ashlar stack is situated on the right-hand corner. The north-facing return also has two plastic windows. The high coped gable to the rear, which appears to have been a party division, is rendered and features a large external stack. A small section of ashlar and a short length of moulded cornice, cleanly cut, are visible on one corner of this gable end. The interior has not been inspected. The house was extended in 1978. It is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the area.
