Description
Richmond House, located at No. 47 South Street, is an 18th-century building featuring a tiled hipped roof and three storeys with three bays. The exterior is cemented and showcases a painted brick dentilled cornice just below the eaves. It has sash windows with flush boxes and flat arches above, with the original glazing bars still intact. A fine doorway is accessed by five steps with an iron handrail; the door consists of six moulded panels, with the top two cut away and glazed. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight with Gothic divisions, set within panelled reveals. The doorcase is adorned with slender Doric columns on high plinths, a broken triglyph frieze, and a rectangular pediment with modillions. The eastern elevation features a large bow window on the ground floor, with windows above that include Gothic tracery. Richmond House is part of a group with Nos 43 to 45 and No. 47.
