Description
No. 52 on South Street is a 19th-century front added to an older building, which was converted in 1891 for use as the Chichester Post Office. The building features a much higher frontage than Nos 51 and 51A and is constructed of painted brick. Above the second-floor windows, there is a band that is topped by a large projecting cornice with modillions and a blocking course. The roof is a slate saddle-back style. The façade has four window bays, with sash windows (including horns) set in reveals within chamfered segmental arches; the glazing bars are intact, and the window sills have ugs. The ground floor is occupied by shop windows and a doorway, featuring large plate-glass panels flanked by pilasters with a frieze and cornice above, which were once part of the Post Office. Some 18th-century panelling can be found in the first-floor rooms.
