Description
Farington House is an early 18th-century building located on South Street. What remains today is half of the original structure, as the northern half was demolished in the 18th century after 1739. The house features a hipped tiled roof and a brick dentilled cornice below the eaves. It is constructed of red brick and has three storeys with two windows. The second storey has two light casement windows with square heads and moulded frames. The sash windows on the upper floors have flush boxes and square heads set in segmental arches, with rubbed brick voussoirs. One window on the first floor has been bricked up. The ground floor is taken up by a 20th-century shop front, which is in a very different style from the rest of the building. There are no traces of panelling left in the first-floor rooms.
