Description

This is an early 19th century front applied to an early 18th century building, slightly projecting forward from the frontage of number 44. The building has a double-pitched, tiled roof. It is two storeys and has an attic, with five bays in total. The central portion comprises one bay, and there are two projecting wings, each of two bays. Dormers are situated above each wing, and a larger dormer is above the central portion. A coved cornice runs around the building, which is stuccoed with stuccoed quoins and a rusticated ground floor. The windows on the first floor are taller than those below, all being sash windows in reveals with flat arches and narrow glazing bars. Rusticated voussoirs with central keystones are above the ground floor windows. The central portion features two storeys of thin Doric columns "in antis," which support a balcony on the first floor and a coved cornice on the second, merging with the cornices of the lateral wings. Steps lead to a semi-circular arched doorway on the ground floor, with a panelled door in reveals. Iron railings are located before the colonnade on the ground floor. Windows with Gothic tracery are present on the east front.

Inside, there is an early 18th century staircase with turned balusters (three patterns are present on the treads), columnar newels, a ramped handrail, and panelling above the wall string. There are panelled doors in reveals with moulded architraves, including panelled overdoors.

Photographs from the National Monuments Record show numbers 43 to 45/45a (consecutive) and number 47 forming a group.
