Description

The pair of houses at 32 and 33 Castle Street date from 1840. They are two storeys high and built with stucco, with a rusticated treatment on the ground floor and a moulded string course at the first and second floor levels. A moulded eaves cornice sits above. The roof is slated and hipped. Panelled pilasters are present at the upper angles of the building. Each house has two windows with architrave surrounds, and a cornice over the first-floor windows. The upper part of the façade appears elevated. Number 32 has a rectangular fanlight above its front door, while number 33 has a segmental headed fanlight. The doorway is framed by engaged Doric columns and an entablature. A five-panel door is set within this surround. Number 32 features a rectangular fanlight above the entrance, and number 33 a segmental-headed fanlight. The buildings are part of a group with Nos 1 to 9 Lowndes Buildings, also on the west side of Castle Street.
