Description
Lees Cottage is a 16th-century cottage of timber framing. Originally it consisted of two bays, with a further bay added to the south. The east wall displays exposed timber framing with plaster infill, while the west wall has a brick exterior. The roof has a high pitch and is tiled, with a long, hipped north end. The south end was likely initially a lean-to, but was later raised to full height and given a gabled roof. The interior reveals structural timbers, including a side-purlin roof with wind braces, a queen post truss, and jowled posts, along with some carpenters' marks. To the right is a projecting gabled bay dating to the mid-19th century, rendered in stucco and bearing a roundel with the date "1850?" and the name "CULLEN." Below this is a complete contemporary double shop front with original glazing; it is now partially hidden by a later projecting one-storey shop building, but remains visible from within that shop.
