Description
Cherriman’s is a house of several periods, situated on Liphook Road, Shottermill. The main range of the house dates to the early 18th century and runs parallel to the road. A gabled cross-wing, added in the late 18th century, sits on the right side. One-storey extensions to the left are likely of a similar date. Behind the left section of the main range lies an older timber-framed bay, possibly a hall, characterised by its long-hipped roof. A more recent, gable ended extension in keeping with the rest of the house has been added to the rear of this original bay in the 20th century.
The house has tiled roofs, mostly high pitched, with the first floors tile-hung. The ground floors are constructed of brick and rubble. The cross-wing is of painted brick with cambered arches on its return. The road front presents two storeys and four bays, featuring a roof that sweeps down in a catslide fashion to the left and right, framing two first-floor windows. The house has early to mid 19th century Gothic iron casement windows, and Gothic door arches are present internally.
