Description
This is a 17th-century building, with later alterations to the front. The front range is two storeys high with four windows. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof with a rebuilt chimney positioned off-centre. Late 19th-century casement windows are set within pebble-dashed walls and framed by simple vermiculate cement architraves. The right-hand house (No. 2) features a modern door beneath a cornice hood. A one-storey extension to the left has a hipped tiled roof and dentil eaves. Behind No. 1 is a building of a similar period, with a half-hipped tiled roof and walls of brick and tile hanging, running back into a hillside. A former mill race is now blocked. Behind No. 2 is a mill building dating from the early 19th century, comprising two parallel ranges β one of brick with a tall square chimney, and the other timber-framed and tile-hung. The mill race formerly ran beneath this building, although the water wheel has been removed. The rear of the main house displays rubble stone walls with red brick dressings. There is an early 19th-century former mill boiler house, built of brick with a tall square chimney. Also present is a former 18thβ19th-century paper mill, one and three storeys high, timber-framed, weatherboarded and with a tiled roof.
