Description
Blossom Cottage is a 15th-century building that was originally a small hall house and has undergone some alterations. It features a timber frame with a main garden front that is two storeys high and has four windows. The roof is high-pitched, hipped, and tiled, with a compound off-centre stack. The visible timber framing is filled with rubble stone and has red brick dressings, while the first floor is tile hung. The cottage has modern leaded casements and a central door. There is a two-storey extension to the south and lean-to extensions at the back. Inside, much of the timber is exposed, including a heavy, slightly cambered tie beam with large arch braces and a rebated lower angle, which features a crisp hollow chamfer above that continues down the swell-head posts. Although the roof is not accessible, peg holes in the ties suggest a crown post construction. The downstairs area includes double inglenook fireplaces and remnants of a bread oven.
