Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with rendered infill on a rubblestone plinth and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of two framed bays. The framing features square panels, with four panels from the cill to the wall-plate and short straight tension braces. The ends of the double purlins project, and the collar and tie beam end trusses have been renewed with V-struts from the collars.

On the front, there are mid-20th century three-light casements to the left and right of a contemporary gabled porch, which has an inner 20th-century boarded door located to the right of centre. Below the eaves, there are two sets of paired 20th-century casements with carved brackets at the corners and centre of the earlier cills. An internal end stack to the left has a shaft that was rebuilt in 20th-century brown brick.

Inside, the left ground-floor room features a deep-chamfered cross-beam ceiling and heavy joists. The right ground-floor room also has a similar deep-chamfered spine beam and joists, with square panels exposed on the original back wall. The central cross wall has square panels with the timber frame exposed up to collar beam level. At the rear, there is a full-length 20th-century planted timber frame lean-to, which is not of special architectural interest.
