Description

The Old House is a cottage dating back to the 16th century, with later alterations in the early 19th century and 20th century. Originally a pair of cottages, it is constructed with a timber frame and brick infill, with some sections featuring flint panels and a mock timber-frame appearance. One bay has a tile hung first floor, while the roof is slated. The left two bays retain a 16th-century timber frame, while the right two bays were built in the early 19th century, when the eaves were raised, and the building was deepened. The right-hand bay was given a timber-frame and brick infill in the 20th century. A 19th-century six-panel door is set within a 20th-century open gabled timber porch located centrally within the timber-frame section. The right bay has no openings, and the remaining windows are 20th-century three-light steel windows. The roof is hipped, with a large central stack and smaller stacks along the hips. An 18th-century lean-to, constructed of timber and brick, extends from the left side. The interior retains much of the original timber frame.
