Description
Number 37 on The Borough is a 17th-century building that has been altered and modernized. It is two stories tall with an attic, featuring an upper section that is timber-framed with plaster infilling and two small gables. The roof is covered with old tiles. The upper part of the building overhangs the ground floor and has an 18th-century entablature at its base, which includes a delicate dentilled cornice above a fluted frieze, likely above what was originally a projecting shop. The modern shop located beneath the overhang has two four-light mullioned and transomed casement windows on the first floor; the lower lights have been altered, while the upper lights contain small panes that are probably from the 17th century. Some timber-framing is also visible in the rear wing. This building is part of a group that includes the front of the Bush Hotel and Nos 29 to 44 on The Borough.
