Description

Numbers 6 and 7 on The Borough are two-storey buildings with an attic, featuring a restored late 18th-century front that conceals an older timber-framed core. The upper part is constructed of red brick and includes a small wooden frieze and a delicate cornice supported by pairs of cut brackets. The building has a brick parapet with stone coping and a hipped roof covered in old tiles, which includes two dormers.

On the first floor, there are two three-light windows flanking a central blocked window. The ground floor features three flat bow windows, each consisting of seven panes wide by four panes high, with two doors positioned between them. The left door (Number 6) is half-glazed, while the right door is a double six-panel design, each with an oval panel above. Carved fan ornaments are present in the corners of the doors. The doors and bow windows are set beneath a continuous curved entablature supported by carved double scroll brackets flanking the doors. The two left-hand windows and doorways are mainly original, while the right-hand window is a modern reproduction. The interior floor level is significantly lower than the pavement outside.

These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 9 (consecutive), including No 1A, and Nos 1 to 6 Town Hall Buildings on The Borough, as well as Nos 1 and 77 Castle Street, and the listed buildings from Nos 108 to 122 (consecutive) on West Street.
