Description

This is a pair of late 19th-century buildings located at 2 and 3 The Borough. They were likely originally two separate structures. The buildings are three storeys high and five bays wide. They have slate roofs, with the roof at number 2 being higher than the one at number 3. A paired bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top, and the front is covered in cement with quoins. There is a moulded cornice just below the second-floor windows. The second-floor windows are segmental headed and have moulded architraves with vermiculated keystones and lugs; those at number 2 are taller and have shouldered architraves. The first-floor windows have shouldered architraves with a decorative frieze and moulded cornice above. A particularly tall, three-pane window is located at the right-hand end, immediately above a passageway, and is set within a moulded architrave with a pulvinated band and a segmental pediment supported by moulded brackets. These buildings, along with numbers 1 to 9 (including 1A) The Borough, numbers 1 to 6 Town Hall Buildings, numbers 1 and 77 Castle Street, and buildings from numbers 108 to 122 West Street, combine to form a group of listed buildings.
