THE BOROUGH (north west side) No 1A
(Formerly listed as No 1A (Premises occupied by Kemp and Winter, Tailors))
GV II Comprises a gate room over yard leading back from No 1 The Borough together with a lower range to the north; timber-framed construction to both; ground floor altered Gateroom: 2 storeys and attic. Old tile gabled roof on North- east-South-west axis. South-east front facing down yard is rendered; 3 2-light modern leaded casements on 1st floor; 3 skylights to attic; 3-centred arch with keystone over yard passage. In north front, some timber framing; 1 gabled dormer; clunch, ironstone rubble and brick cladding. To north of gate room, runs a much lower range with old tile roof; modern brick addition along east side; modern window in north-west gable end with timber-framed panels of thin scanrling above. Facing south-west is a blank wall of brick also with exposed panels of timber-framing (this wall is accessible from Long Garden Walk).
Nos 1 to 9 (consec) (including No 1A), and Nos 1 to 6 Town Hall Buildings (The Borough), Nos 1 and 77 Castle Street, the listed buildings from Nos 108 to 122 (consec) West Street, all form a group.
