Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the mid-16th century. It features a timber frame with red brick infilling, some brick cladding on the right side of the ground floor, and ironstone rubble infill on the left-hand extension. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, with a gablet at the left end. The building stands two storeys high and consists of three framed bays, displaying arched bracing on the first floor and pentices at the ends. A central multiple stack has been rebuilt. The windows show irregular fenestration, including diamond-pane leaded casements; there are three three-light windows on the first floor and one single-light window. On the ground floor, there are two large two-light windows and two square windows with lozenge-shaped glazing. The central entrance features a cambered head glazed door. The main entrance is now located on the left-hand return front, accessed through an open 20th-century porch. There is an outshot at the rear.
