Description
The barn at Pierrepont Farm is an 18th-century threshing barn. Its exterior features timber-framed sides covered in weatherboarding, resting on a deep brick plinth, while the ends are constructed of brick in Sussex bond and include three tiers of ventilation slits. The roof is tiled and half-hipped at the ends, with weatherboarding on the gables and off-central double cart entrances.
Inside, the barn consists of seven bays. The wall frame includes jowled principal posts with chamfered profiles, unusual staggered midrails, and diagonal tension braces. The roof structure features two tiers of staggered purlins, angled queenposts, collar beams, and retains the original rafters with a ridgepiece. This large, unaltered 18th-century threshing barn is part of a group of farm buildings.
