Description
Smithers is a house dating from the late 16th century. It features a timber frame set on a coursed stone and brick plinth, with red and blue brick cladding below and tile hanging above. The roof is plain tiled and has a large stack positioned to the right of center. The building is two stories tall with an attic, which includes a hipped leaded casement dormer to the right of center. The windows are regularly spaced, with the majority being leaded; there are five windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor. To the right of center, there is a planked 20th-century door situated in a wide hipped roof timber-framed porch that has rendered infilling. The left-hand return front displays close studding below and is tile hung above, while the rear features weatherboarding across the first floor. Inside, there is a deep brick fireplace with stone jambs, and the framing on the walls and ceiling is visible.
