Description
The cast iron finger post at Millbridge Crossroads is likely from the late 19th century. It features a cast iron structure with a central eight-sided column on a plinth, adorned with two bands about 2 feet above the base and topped with a decorative finial. The post has four sign boards: two arms are positioned high and two are lower, each terminating in hands with extended index fingers. One high board indicates directions to Shortfield Common (½ mile) and Batts Corner (2½ miles), while another high board points to Tilford (2½ miles), Elstead (5½ miles), and Godalming (8½ miles). The lower boards direct to Frensham Pond (1¼ miles), Churt (2½ miles), Hindhead (7 miles), and Farnham (3 miles). This finger post is a rare and decorative type of signpost, located in the garden of Alison Cottage on The Reeds Road.
