Description
Nos. 76, 77, and 78 on West Street are late 18th century to early 19th century buildings that stand two storeys high with an attic. Each building features one window bay and a door. They have a mansard roof, with modern tiles on the front and older tiles at the back, and each has a boxed dormer. The buildings have a small paired bracketed eaves cornice and a fine moulded eaves cornice along the south-west return. The front is made of red brick with ribbed brick voussoirs. The ground floor window of No. 76 and No. 78 retain their glazing bars. No. 76 has a four-flush panelled door with painted reveals and a plain rectangular fanlight above. No. 77 features a plate glass shop front on the ground floor. No. 78 has a six-flush panelled door in the reveals, with the top two panels cut away and glazed; the doorway is flanked by pilasters and has a plain frieze with a moulded string and a triangular pediment on out brackets. These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos. 75 to 94, which also encompasses Nos. 86A and 88A.
