Description

53 and 54 Broad Street are late 18th century to early 19th century buildings that stand three storeys tall with attics and feature six window bays. They have a slate mansard roof with box dormers and a brick front. The buildings include plain stone stringcourses and sash windows with glazing bars, with a false centre window on the first floor of No 54. Each building has an entrance at the centre, framed by fluted pilasters and enriched fanlights from the early 19th century. To the left of the doorway in No 53, there is a shop window flanked by pilasters, topped with a cornice that extends over the doorway. To the right of the doorway in No 54, there are two square-headed windows with glazing bars in the upper part, and at the far right, a round-headed window with a radial glazing pattern in the upper part. The rear elevation of No 54 features a bow window and sash windows with glazing bars on both the first and second floors. Nos 45 to 65 Broad Street form a group with these buildings.
