Description
This is a late 18th-century building of two storeys, situated on West Street. The front of the building is constructed of red brick and features a painted string course at the level of the first floor. A moulded and painted frieze, decorated with roundels, runs along the front, with a fluted panel above the centre and a dentilled cornice. The roof is tiled and covered by a brick parapet with painted coping. There are five windows on the first floor, where the glazing has been altered, and four similar windows are located on the ground floor. The central entrance is accessed via a six-panel door, which is positioned within a panelled reveal and doorcase. The doorcase contains carved console brackets, a dentilled cornice that extends around the reveal and across a reeded architrave above the arched fanlight, which is decorated with radiating and scroll motifs. A two-bay extension, matching the design of the main building, extends at a slight bend to the right. All ground-floor windows and the front door are set within recessed brick arches. The building is part of a group value with numbers 18, 37, 43, and 45, and the other listed buildings on the south-east side of the street from numbers 19 to 46 (inclusive), including the wrought-iron screen before Vernon House.
