Description
Nos. 5 and 6 Mead Lane comprise a 19th-century kiln range and a cottage. No. 5 is the kiln range, laid out on a north-east to south-west axis. It is two storeys high. The northern projecting range is constructed of brick with an old tile roof, featuring a half-hip to the south-west and north-east ends, and a brick dentil eaves. The southern range is of clunch with red brick quoins, dressings, and brick dentil eaves. The roof is slate, with a pyramidal roof over the former kiln on the south-east side. The fenestration is irregular, with a splayed bay at the south-west end. No. 6 is attached to the north-east end of the south-east elevation of No. 5 and is a two-storey cottage, formerly the manager's house. The south-west elevation has two window bays with a central doorway. It features red brick quoins, dressings, brick dentil eaves, and brick cambered heads to the ground floor openings. The roof is slate, with red tiled ridges, and incorporates a hipped design. There are two-light casement windows with small panes, and a wooden boarded door within a wood frame with a slightly pedimented head. A late 19th-century rear extension is also of clunch with a slate hipped roof and red brick lacing courses. The south-east elevation shows a sash window on the ground floor and a two-light first-floor casement with small panes.
