Description
The stable block, now converted into guest rooms, was built around 1905 by Arnold Mitchell. It is constructed of brick with red brick dressings and features 20th-century tile hanging on the first floor courtyard side of the wings, topped with plain tiled roofs. The building has a rectangular plan surrounding a central courtyard.
To the south, there is a single-storey range with an attic that has two flat-roof dormers. A central lead lantern plinth with 'eyebrow' mouldings on the sides supports a circular lantern above, which is set on Doric piers and topped with a copper dome and gilt weathervane that contains a bell. A small, shingled circular turret is located at the ridge of the roof where it meets the left side.
The south range has five windows on the ground floor, each with aprons below, and doors at the ends. The court elevations of the wings are each two storeys high. The south end features a round oriel window on a bracket on the first floor, while the north end has a central round bow-window. The ground floor includes four windows and a half-glazed door. The gables at the north end of the wings project into the courtyard and have three windows on the first floor.
Quadrant walls at the front have square end piers topped with finials. There are massive lozenge stacks on the gables, and half-glazed doors in the gable ends are set in panelled reveals and topped with fine shell hoods on foliate console brackets, which feature cherub's heads at the centre of the hoods.
