Description

The stable block to the north of Myddelton House is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys tall and is constructed of stock brick. The central section projects forward and features a two-storey round-headed archway, which is adorned with archivolt bands and an architrave surround. Above the archway is an entablature with a frieze cornice and a blocking course, while the tympanum of the arch is filled with radiating paneling.

On the ground floor, there is an inset porch that includes a door flanked by sidelights and a three-light fanlight, all featuring small panes. The wings of the building each have one round-headed casement window on the ground floor, with a band at floor level, and a two-light casement window on the first floor. The eaves are plain, and the roof is covered with hipped slates.

Atop the building is a circular wooden clock turret set on a square base, decorated with pilasters and featuring two circular clock dials. The original dome and weather vane, marked with cardinal points, are also present. The stable block has projecting one-storey wings, with coach house doors that balance each other; the left door has lights and ventilators inserted. The wings are topped with pediments, and the projecting right section has pedimented gable ends facing into the courtyard, along with three round-arched openings.

The rear elevation consists of a lean-to block that is one storey high, featuring a layout of four windows and doors under rubbed brick heads, with a wide recessed portion in the centre that forms a porch under the roof line, also covered with hipped slates.
