Description
Myddelton House is a two and a half storey building dating from 1819, featuring five windows. A three-storey right wing was added later in a similar style. The house is constructed of stock brick and has a stone entablature above the first floor, along with a stone-coped parapet above the top half-storey. The recessed sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged flat brick arches. The central windows are adorned with carved stone architraves. A projecting central porch is supported by Ionic columns in antis and features a dentil cornice. The right wing includes a round bow that spans two floors, complete with pilasters and entablatures, and has a cornice band and sloped parapet above the second floor. Each floor of the right wing has three sash windows. The upper storey of the main house may have been added later. This plain yet dignified house was the residence of the Bowles family, with Mr. E A Bowles, the Vice President of the Royal Horticultural Society, responsible for the garden layout. Some original interior fittings remain.
