Description
Hewetts Kilns is a 19th-century former kiln range located on Tongham Road. The building is L-shaped, consisting of a north-south wing and a wide east-west wing that meet at a right angle, facing south. The east-west wing features three parallel ranges, with the northernmost range being shorter and having a slightly splayed end. The structure is built from clunch and brick, with ironstone rubble present in the southernmost range. It has half-hipped roofs covered with old tiles. The south-facing side of the north-south wing has a higher frontage, topped with a hipped slate roof that includes raised louvred ventilators beneath a pitched roof. The wall is made of clunch rubble with red brick dressings, quoins, and dentil eaves, along with garretting. There are two window bays on this side. Additionally, there is a lean-to annexe attached to the east side, and the north wall is constructed of brick.
