Description

The Bakery and Numbers 1 and 2 Hawthorne Cottages are a group of three cottages located on St George's Road in Runfold. The bakery, situated to the south, dates from the 18th century and is two stories high. It features chequered brickwork, a string course, and an old tiled roof. The front has two 2-light casements and a central 3-light casement on the upper floor, while the lower floor has a 2-light casement at each end. There is a ledged door to the right of the center and a modern shop window with a barn front to the left, topped with a cornice on shaped brackets. To the south of the bakery is a late 18th to 19th-century addition with one bay and a half-hipped gable, which has a much higher frontage and brick dentil eaves. The west front includes a blind panel made of blue vitreous bricks with a rubbed brick voussoir above, and below it is a modern metal-framed casement. The south gable end has a modern 3-light metal-framed casement above and a French casement with a rubbed brick voussoir below.

Numbers 1 and 2 Hawthorne Cottages are from the late 18th century and are also two stories high. They are constructed of flint with brick dressings and a string course at the first-floor level, topped by an old tiled roof with a half-hipped design. The front features two 2-light casements, including two metal-framed segmental-headed casements, and there are two plain ledged doors in the outer corners, with the right-hand door being glazed above. There is a modern extension of one bay at the north end of the cottages.
