Description
This building is a barn, now used as a dining room, located 5 yards east of Lingfield Hospital School. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the 19th century, with 20th-century extensions added to the left. The structure features a timber frame set on a coursed stone plinth, with weatherboard cladding. The left extension is made of roughcast brick with a tile-hung gable. The roofs are plain tiled, steeply pitched, and hipped to the right with an end gablet. The barn is rectangular with a rectangular parallel extension at the front left and includes a single-storey wing at right angles to the rear, which has a tall end stack.
The barn comprises four framed bays and has a large square bay window with mullions and transoms to the right, covered by a projecting hipped roof, featuring 18 diamond-pane lights. There is a similar window in the centre of the right-hand return front, and a sash window on the right side of the extension. A door is located to the left of the extension in a deep recess porch passage.
Inside, the timber frame consists of thin scantling, braced posts, and a Queen strut roof. The building is included in the listing for its group value only.
