Description
Lightwater War Memorial is situated on a green at the junction of All Saints Road and Guildford Road in Lightwater, Surrey. Constructed from rough-hewn Cornish granite, the memorial features a wheel-head cross atop a square tapering shaft, which is adorned with a carved relief of a Sword of Sacrifice. This structure stands on a tapered square pedestal that has a smooth polished panel displaying lead inscriptions. The entire memorial is set on a single-stepped square base.
The dedication for the First World War reads: "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF LIGHTWATER WHO FOUGHT FOR LIBERTY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919" followed by names. On the opposite face, the dedication for the Second World War states: "SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945" followed by names.
