Description

BEGGAR HOUSE LANE 1. 5387 Greenings TQ 24 SW 1/1 11.11.66 (formerly listed under Stan Hill) II

  1. Late C16 to early C17. Four bay timber-framed house with central smoke bay and a further smoke bay added at the end of the house. Two storeys and attics timber-framed, largely refaced with tiles, curved and diamond. Tiled roof with 3 gabled dormers. Four casement windows. Gabled weatherporch. Catslide roof to rear. The interior contains soot encrusted rafters over the smoke bay and jointed corner posts, internal framing and inglenook fireplace. (See Joan M Harding, "Four Centuries of Charlwood Houses" p 48)
