Description
Brook Cottage, located on Glover's Road, is a building that dates from the early 16th century, with additions made in the early 17th century and the 18th century. It originally started as a two-bay open hall house, featuring a hall of one bay and a bedroom that jetted out over the hall, with a dairy located below. In the early 17th century, the hall was floored over and a chimney was added, along with a two-bay extension at the south end. An additional gabled wing was constructed on this side in the 18th century. The building is two storeys high, timber-framed with red brick infilling, and features square framing with some diagonal braces. It has a tiled roof and five casement windows. There are two simple doorcases with weather boards. Inside, the cottage has jowled posts and smoke-blackened rafters above the original open hall, and the original smoke vent remains open.
