Description
Primrose Cottage is likely an early 16th century open hall-house with a 17th century addition of one bay. The original structure was a single storey with a hall of one bay and a service area. Later, a solar was added upstairs, and the building is now two storeys. It is timber-framed with modern brick infilling. The original house features long sagging passing braces, while the 17th century addition has square framing. The roof is made of Horsham slabs, with the north end tiled, a gablet on the original part, and a half-hip on the 17th century bay. There is a 17th century brick chimney stack and three casement windows. The original hall-house has a simple crown post roof, and the 17th century addition has a side purlin roof. Inside, there is an inglenook hearth, and the bread oven extends into the garden at the rear.
