Description
Brook Cottage, which includes a front garden wall, is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century or earlier. It is whitewashed and rendered, probably made of cob on stone rubble footings, and features a thatched roof with gabled ends and end stacks that have brick shafts. The plan of the interior was not inspected at the time of the survey, but it is probably a single-depth range that is two rooms wide, with a shallow stair projection on the front to the right. Both rooms are heated by gable end stacks.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has three windows. The front door is located to the right of centre, and there are 20th-century timber casement windows with glazing bars. The thatch extends down over a shallow projection at the right end. Additionally, there is a low flint rubble garden wall, likely from the 19th century, that encloses a small front garden. The interior was not inspected, but it may have interesting features, and an inspection could lead to a revision of the suggested dating.
