Description

KENN KENNFORD (west side) SX 98 NW

2/187 April Cottage

GV II

House. Probably C17 in origin, alterations of the C20. Whitewashed rendered cob on stone footings ; thatched roof, hipped at right end ; 2 rear lateral stacks. Plan: Single depth main block, 2 rooms wide, with a central passage ; 1960s rear addition. The relationship between April Cottage and Brookfield (q.v.) adjoining at the left (south) is not clear. They appear to be one build and may originally have been one house. The river Kenn flows adjacent to the right end of the house. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front with a front door to left of centre into a passage. Plate glass C20 windows in timber frames. Interior: Modernized. Timber panelling said to survive behind modern wall plaster on party wall with Brookfield (information from owner). Roof: Straight principal rafters visible on first floor, apex not inspected at time of survey (1987).
