Description

Davenport House is a detached house located in Duntisbourne Abbots, originally listed as Brook Cottage. It dates from the 17th century and features a 20th-century extension wing. The building is constructed of coursed and random rubble limestone, with ashlar chimneys that have moulded caps, and a stone slate roof. It stands two stories high with an attic and has a fireplace backing onto a cross-passage, with one room on either side.

The front of the house has three windows and an off-centre doorway with a timber lintel. The ground floor has three-light windows, while the upper floor features two-light windows, all of which are recessed chamfered mullioned and have hood mouldings. The windows include leaded casements, and there are three gabled roof dormers along with two chimneys at the ridge.

The lower gable end has altered fenestration, with a single two-light window above a three-light window, both featuring artificial stone lintels and lacking hoods. An oval window from the 20th century is present in the attic. At the back, there is a single two-light recessed chamfered mullioned window with a hood mould on each floor. The lower side of the back wing has 20th-century casements with timber lintels, and deep stone lintels are found on the openings on the north side. The interior has been altered. The house occupies a commanding position in the village.
