Description

Rose Cottage is an early 18th-century detached house, originally two houses in a row. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with dressed windows and has a Welsh slate roof. The chimneys are a mix of materials: one of red brick, one of ashlar with a moulded cap, and one of concrete block. The original layout comprised two rooms per floor in each house. A single-storey lean-to has been added to the west end. The front elevation features an irregular arrangement of windows; a doorway with a timber lintel and a 20th-century panelled door is roughly central. To the left of the door are two 2-light chamfered mullioned windows without hoods on the ground floor, with two further 2-light windows above. To the right are timber casement windows with timber lintels – two to the ground floor and one above. The portion of front facing the road covered by the lean-to is partially boarded, with a plank door below. A stepped chimney stack protrudes at the east end and has been rebuilt above the ridge line. The rear of the building is built into a bank.
