Description
Elm Cottage is a detached house dating from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with dressed stone window surrounds, and has a stone-slate roof with a rebuilt stone chimney. The house is a single storey with an attic, originally comprising one room on either side of a central entrance. The front facade has a two-window arrangement with a central doorway featuring a timber lintel above the plank door. Recessed, chamfered mullioned windows with three lights flank the doorway, but lack hoodmoulds. Three gabled roof dormers are present, each containing timber casements. A stepped chimney stack is located at the upper end of the house, with a rebuilt chimney shaft. The house is built into a bank at the rear and has scattered window openings, all of which were altered in the 20th century. An outshut at the rear projects into the adjacent churchyard. A 20th-century cross-wing at the lower end is not of special historic or architectural interest.
